I lost my son on March 8, 2008 to a roadside bomb. He was a sergeant in the US Army and stationed in Afghanistan.
Now, eight years later, I am ready to write my book. The idea has been in my thoughts for at least the last four years, probably longer. This will be my journey, to transform my grief, while still carrying all the love I feel for Gabe, into my life.
Besides being Gabe’s mom, I also have two beautiful daughters and eight amazing grandchildren (4 boys and 4 girls). I love my family, they are one of the most important parts of my life.
My connection to the Great Mystery (God, Universe, Spirit) is also important to me. I believe that Gabe is still with me, in spirit, as I write and in many ways he’s there for me. As a warrior, I call on him when I need protection. I feel he’s smiling right now as he sees this project take hold.
I’m a writer, spiritual guide, mentor, teacher and ceremonialist. I love the outdoors, traveling, hiking, and dancing. I enjoy connecting with people and meeting new friends.
For me, healing and transformation happen through my writing. I found a quote today that says it so well:
“Through curiosity and imagination, a story of loss turns into a story of reclamation.” – Dr. Anne Davin
This is my goal in this writing journey. I hope to find all the joy and purpose that Gabe would want for me. He was an inspiration to be all that I can be.
Feel free to write to me or post comments on my posts or Facebook. I look forward to where this journey goes.
From my heart to yours,
Ixchel Tucker (aka: Shelley Tucker)
